Health life tips

Regular physical activity helps people to;
  • live longer and feel better throughout their lives
  • be stronger and more flexible
  • build strong bones
  • prevent depression
  • strengthens your ability to fight off illness
  • maintain a healthy body weight
It is best to get at least one half hour of exercise three times a week, but any amount of exercise is better than none at all! If you do not want to go jogging or swimming, try going for a brisk walk with a friend, working vigorously in the yard, or riding your bike to work.

When you are in a good state of mind, you make good decisions for yourself about your job, your lifestyle, and your health. Here are some things you can do to keep your mind healthy:
  • Reduce stress in your life.
  • Make time in your life for things that are fun. Make a list of activities you like and sure you have at least a little time each day for doing something you enjoy.
  • Get enough sleep. Being sleepy reduces your concentration, increases mood swings, and causes many different accidents.
  • Get help if you feel depressed or anxious for more than several days at a time. Talk with a friend or your health care provider for some help.
Keep your mind and body free of harmful drugs and alcohol.
  • Tobacco causes more health problems and it is addictive, most widely used. Cutting down or stopping the use of cigarettes, cigars, or chewing tobacco can save your health and save your money.
  • Too much alcohol is  dangerous, causing liver damage, fetal alcohol syndrome, and accidents. The tricky question is, how much is too much?

Your health care practitioner can help you decide, and these Web sites also offer information: Alcohol: Problems and Solutions http://www2.potsdam.edu/alcohol-info/ National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism

  • Street drugs or pain pills not prescribed for you are dangerous to your health. People often put themselves in dangerous situations to get street drugs.
Practice safe living habits so as to have a long healthy life.

Fast Food

Fast foods contain too many calories and little nutrients and if fast foods are a regular component of your diet this can lead to weight problems and ill health.  Fast food refers to the food that is prepared quickly, and in most cases it contains too much fat and too much sugar.

When fast food is taken more frequently it end up replacing nutritious food in your diet and this can lead to poor nutrition and health. Fast foods are a good way to save time ,but it is not the proper way for nutrition.  Common foods include salted snack foods, gum, candy, sweet desserts, fried fast food, and carbonated beverages. Fast food may include chips, hot pies ,pasties, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, chicken, soups, and salads. It also includes drinks, for instance, milkshakes, and soft drinks.

Fast food is a driving force behind the global epidemic of diet-related diseases, setting kids up for a lifetime of health problems. Fast foods create a higher risk of heart disease because of the high level of fats found in much of the food. Those fats can clog the arteries and, over time, contribute to high cholesterol levels.
People can develop type 2 diabetes, this type of diabetes is often caused by poor lifestyle choices, such as being overweight and not being physically active. There is a side effect to consuming frequent amounts of fast food , obesity which can lead to the development of diabetes.

Moreover smoking and drinking too much alcohol, not exercising, and not eating enough fruits and veggies can lead one into an early grave. People should include traditional dishes in their diets as they help in ones life for example President Mugabe usually advices people to love their traditional dishes as these are keeping him healthy and strong. Your body needs some foods to stay strong and healthy. Other foods, if eaten too often, contribute to many illnesses.

Aerobic exercise; better way to a healthy life

To have a healthy body exercises are very essential for one's body. At gyms they mainly do aerobics as these help to maintain or have a good health. Aerobic exercise is also known as "cardio" exercise that includes pumping of oxygenated blood by the heart to deliver oxygen to working muscles. Aerobic exercise stimulates the heart rate and breathing rate to increase in a way that can be sustained for the exercise session.
Examples of aerobic exercises include cardio machines, spinning, running, swimming, walking, hiking, aerobics classes, dancing, cross country skiing, and kickboxing.

Aerobic exercise can help prevent or reduce the chance of developing some cancers, diabetes, depression, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis. Aerobic exercise is any activity that one can sustain for more than just a few minutes while the heart, lungs, and muscles work overtime.

laughing a good medicine

When laughter is shared, it brings people together and increases happiness. Laughter also triggers healthy physical changes in the body. Humor and laughter strengthen your immune system, boost your energy and protect you from the damaging effects of stress. Best of all, this priceless medicine is fun, free, and easy to use.

When it comes to a healthy way of living its not all about good food and exercising. Laughing also also helps one to live a healthy life. One should laugh most of the times as laughing reduces blood pressure (BP), it strenghthens ribs and stomach especially for the growing kids. Moreover laughing also reduces hormones that stresses people. One has to laugh most of the times as this strengthens the heart and  keeps it working, boosting the heart rate, pumping blood all over the body. Laughing rises the cells which enables the body to fight diseases like cough and cold. Endophils helps reduce pain in the body and so does laughing. Moreover laughing shows that an individual is alive.

"I believe that if people can get more laughter in their lives, they are a lot better off," says Steve Wilson, MA, CSP, a psychologist and laugh therapist. "They might be healthier too."

When we laugh we stretch muscles throughout our face and body, our pulse and blood pressure go up, and we breathe faster, sending more oxygen to our tissues.
Laughter is good for your health
  • Laughter relaxes the whole body. A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes after.
  • Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.
  • Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.
  • Laughter protects the heart. Laughter improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.http://www.helpguide.org/articles/emotional-health/laughter-is-the-best-medicine.htm

No to alcohol and smoking during pregnancy

At hospitals and clinics pregnant women are encouraged to eat more of spinach, macimbi / madora, mfushwa/ mufushwa so as to increase iron in their bodies. Everyone needs iron in their bodies. Iron is essential for making haemoglobin, the protein in the red blood cells that carries oxygen to other cells.  It also helps maintain a healthy immune system. Pregnant women need more Iron to make more haemoglobin. It’s also needed for growing baby and placenta.

Pregnant women should take balanced diet meals so that the baby feeds well. One should also eat what she likes most so as to avoid moods and morning sicknesses. As a pregnant woman one has to avoid alcohol and smoking as these can affect the health of the unborn baby. The above substances can cause complications during pregnancy. They have damaging effects to the foetuses and they may contribute to other medical problems as the child grows.

When a pregnant woman drinks alcohol, it travels through her bloodstream and into the foetus. This therefore means if the mother has a bottle of beer the child also drinks the beer too.

Drinking alcohol can make one to eat less and this will mean low nutrients.  According to the University of MaryLand Medical System; alcohol consumption during pregnancy can lead to Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS). FAS include mental and physical birth defects and growth problems associated with the mother’s high levels of alcohol use during pregnancy. According to Charlene Moyo a mother of twins,’ I drink ciders and during the early stages of my pregnancy I used to drink, but when I heard of the side effects of alcohol on my unborn children I stopped drinking.’ She went on to say that pregnant women should not take alcohol or smoke as it is dangerous to the health of the innocent unborn children. There is no amount of beer that can be said to be safe for pregnant women.

Why exercising during pregnancy

Exercising during pregnancy days helps one to feel and to look better . Today we will talk about the reasons why pregnant women have to exercise. Exercises makes one :
  • feel better. At a time when you wonder how this strange body can possibly be yours, exercise can increase your sense of control and boost your energy level. Not only does it make you feel better by releasing endorphins (naturally occurring chemicals in the brain), appropriate exercise can:
    • relieve backaches and improve your posture by strengthening and toning muscles in your back, butt, and thighs
    • reduce constipation by accelerating movement in your intestines
    • prevent wear and tear on your joints (which become loosened during pregnancy due to normal hormonal changes) by activating the lubricating fluid in your joints
    • help you sleep better by relieving the stress and anxiety that might make you restless at night
  • look better. Exercise increases the blood flow to your skin, giving you a healthy glow.
  • prepare you and your body for birth. Strong muscles and a fit heart can greatly ease labor and delivery. Gaining control over your breathing can help you manage pain. And in the event of a lengthy labor, increased endurance can be a real help.
  • regain your pre-pregnancy body more quickly. You'll gain less fat weight during your pregnancy if you continue to exercise (assuming you exercised before becoming pregnant). But don't expect or try to lose weight by exercising while you're pregnant. For most women, the goal is to maintain their fitness level throughout pregnancy.
While the jury's still out on the additional benefits of exercise during pregnancy, some studies have shown that exercise may even lower a woman's risk of complications, like preeclampsia and gestational diabetes.

If you weren't fit before you became pregnant, don't give up! Begin slowly and build gradually as you become stronger. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends at least 150 minutes (that's 2½ hours) of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week for healthy women who are not already highly active or doing vigorous-intensity activity.
If you're healthy, the risks of moderate-intensity activity during pregnancy are very low, and do not increase risk of low birth weight, pre-term delivery, or early pregnancy loss.
Before you continue your old exercise routine or begin a new one, you should talk to your doctor about exercising while you're pregnant. Discuss any concerns you have and know that you might need to limit your exercise if you have:
  • pregnancy-induced high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • early contractions
  • vaginal bleeding
